" There's only two times in life, there's now and there's too late"- Anh Do
The book 'The Happiest Refugee' is a memoir about Anh Do and his life, explaining the challenges which he had to face, making him one of Australia's best-loved comedians. Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, moving and at times even a bit tear jerking- from how his family survived the long and traumatic boat trip to Australia to Anh and his families constant persistence to make the most of their new life. This book showed us that if we try and work hard we can do anything and achieve our goals which made the book even more inspirational and uplifting .
The book was written very well ticking all my boxes of what a good book should include (read my blog for this list) and with lots of detail reflecting all the key events in Anh's life which have helped shape him into the person which he is today.
This book not only gives an insight into Anh's life but also demonstrates the current issues which we are facing in our society. It addresses racism and the difficult lives in which refugees have to face. I would definitely re read this book again and I highly recommend it to mature readers who like true, inspiring and funny novels. This book definitely touched my heart and made me very thankful for all that I have. Its a great read and a great gift for all occasions.
